Join the team! This position is located in the Office of Compliance (EXC), Division of Defect Investigations (CDI). The Division operates in three teams that individually address different types of product hazards associated with consumer products.  New Compliance Officers are trained by the Agency and are paired with experienced Compliance Officers who provide one-on-one guidance in investigatory techniques. The Division is responsible for investigating potential product hazards, defects and enforcing mandatory standards and safety-related voluntary standards. The ideal candidate for the Fire/Electrical Hazards Team would possess knowledge or have practical experience with textiles, textile flammability or fire science and engineering. Additionally, knowledge and experience would be desirable in AC&DC electricity, electronics safety engineering or engineering technology. The ideal candidate for the Children's Hazards Team would have experience in criminal investigative techniques,children's advocacy issues, public health or child welfare. As a Compliance Officer you will have the opportunity to work with companies on product recalls, and improved product design which includes the development of mandatory and voluntary standards. The staff of the Office of Compliance also provides advice and guidance to the industry on the requirements of various federal product regulations.
