The Bureau of Indian Affairs is the lead agency for the United States in carrying on a government-to-government relationship with the tribal nations. The incumbent will serve as a Criminal Investigator on assigned Indian reservation(s) and trust lands and will perform the full range of in-depth investigative duties requiring a comprehensive knowledge of law enforcement and skills involving a high degree of independent judgment, immediate decisions, and a high degree of initiative and resourcefulness.

 

The individual selected for this position will be working for the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services, Internal Affairs Division, Albuquerque, NM.

 

Salary Information:  GS-9:  $49,029 - $63,259 per annum; GS-11:  $57,408 - $74,628 per annum; GS-12:  $68,809 - $89,450 per annum.  First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lower salary range of the grade level.  Law Enforcement Availability Pay in the amount of 25% has been approved for this position.

 

The position has a full performance level of GS-12.

 

Indian Preference:  In accordance with the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934 (25 USC 472), this vacancy priority selection will be given to Indian candidates who present proof of eligibility for Indian Preference by the closing date of this announcement (detailed instructions are listed under the "How to Apply" tab of the announcement).  Verification Form No. BIA-4432 must be provided with the application of the candidate who claims Indian Preference.  If selected Indian Preference you will be placed in the excepted service for three years.  Upon satisfactory completion of this service requirement, you may be non-competitively converted to the competitive service.
